Banks Peninsula View The Little River Rail Trail Little River Cafe

Little River is renown for its Art Gallery, recognised as one of the major art galleries in New Zealand. The Little River Gallery showcases quality New Zealand art, jewellery and New Zealand made products.

Adjacent to the gallery is the Little River Railway Station Craft Co-operative with a wide range of quality crafts made by local craftspeople. These include hand knitted garments, woodwork, silk items, hats, spray free produce, jams, preserves and locally made homeopathic and herbal creams.

The historic railway station building includes a museum with fascinating historical memorabilia connected to the early days of trains in the area.

Along scenic Okuti Valley is the Manaia Native habitat and sanctuary with bellbirds, kereru and other native birds, set in magnificent native bush. There are walks for all fitness levels at Manaia.

Fishing, surfing and kayaking, hang gliding, cycling, tramping, bird watching, mountain bikes, golfing, swimming and country rambles are all popular activities in Little River.

Bike and helmet hire is available from the Little River garage.

The busy Little River Café and the Garden Café serve good food during the day and the Little River Hotel offers pub foods in the evenings.

A massage and beauty therapist is available, but must be booked prior to arrival to avoid disappointment.

The Little River Rail Trail offers a marvellous opportunity to see some of the spectacular scenery in this area.

Stay at Little River and explore the diverse wonders of the magnificent Banks Peninsula.

Twenty minutes’ drive is the Duvauchelle Hotel, the Duvauchelle Bistro, both serve fine food, and the delicious Barry’s Bay Cheese Factory.

Akaroa is only half an hour’s drive away and offers many activities including harbour cruises, swimming with the dolphins, sailing, kayaking, fishing cruises and acclaimed restaurants and shops.

Okains Bay is an historic bay with safe swimming and a magical museum with some wonderful examples of Maori and early pioneer artefacts.
